Catalyzing Clean Energy & Climate Justice in a Time of Crisis

On Earth Day 2025, we kicked off the Tishman Environment and Design Center’s 20th anniversary with a powerful keynote conversation featuring visionary leaders advancing community-led environmental and energy justice.

At a time when frontline communities continue to push for bold, equitable climate solutions, this conversation explored how we sustain momentum and build power for a just, clean energy transition.

This past April, the Tishman Center’s Environmental Justice Disrupt Design (EJDD) Fellowship, comprising of 18 environmental leaders and 16 community organizations across seven U.S. states, Hawai’i, and three Indigenous territories—gathered in Borikén (Puerto Rico) as EJ fellows launched Year Two of their work, designing in their core groups and deepening their collective practice.

We are honored to share our recap video, gratitude report, and blog post, which were born out of this retreat.

New Report

Three years ago, the Community First Fund (CFF), a funder intermediary established by two women of color, embarked on a mission to ensure that the federal government was held accountable to the Justice40 mandate and that federal funding would flow to the groups that needed it the most. In 2022, they asked the Tishman Center to assist in identifying the challenges and gaps in federal infrastructure funding for local EJ organizations and the communities they represent.

Higher education plays a pivotal role in bringing together community-based knowledge and solutions. When done correctly, universities can leverage state and federal funding for increased sustainability and furthering equitable partnerships. As part of the Centering Justice Webinar Series, the Building Climate Justice Leadership panel addresses critical questions, aiming to support the future of climate justice leadership.
