From June 23-28, the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) will host the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond—a free, virtual gathering bringing together over 125 women and gender diverse leaders from 50 countries. This global convening will include 25 panels across 6 days, spotlighting powerful, community-rooted solutions and strategies to the climate crisis.
As climate impacts intensify and global temperatures rise above the 1.5°C threshold, political systems continue to falter. Corporate interests and fossil fuel expansion persist, even as communities face worsening floods, fires, droughts, and displacement. In this critical moment, women's leadership is more vital than ever.
“In 2025, this year alone, we have seen triple-digit heatwaves from across Brazil, the U.S., Central Asia, and the Gulf Region. This is not just an environmental crisis; it is a justice crisis and a societal crisis, and how we respond and who is centered in that response matters deeply. Study after study shows that women are the most effective climate leaders, building local scalable solutions and defending ecosystems and human rights.” — Osprey Orielle Lake, Founder and Executive Director at the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) (United States).

Women in all of their diversity are among the most negatively affected by the climate crisis, but they are also at the forefront of bold, effective action. From defending forests and waters to passing groundbreaking climate policies, women are building pathways rooted in justice, care, and regeneration. Studies show that countries with a higher proportion of women in political leadership have stronger environmental protections, lower carbon emissions, and more equitable economies.
The Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice is more than an event—it is a moment for systemic change. Through panel discussions, calls to action, and international collaboration, the Assembly will center on climate justice, challenge extractive systems, and uplift feminist solutions that prioritize people and the planet over profit.
“The climate crisis-deniers have run out of excuses. Amongst these deniers, we must include those who continue to keep women, feminists, Indigenous, and local community leaders out of spaces where we belong. So in Bonn, Belem, and beyond, we must amplify calls of feminist advocates, Indigenous leaders, and the majority world at large, and call time of death on hiding behind false solutions and dangerous distractions.” — Zukiswa White, Project Specialist and Social Justice Consultant (South Africa)

As COP30 approaches in Brazil, this Assembly offers a critical moment to raise women’s leadership and demand that governments respond to the climate emergency with bold and just climate policies.
“COP30 must be the critical turning point in redefining the future of our planet. The COP in Belem cannot become just another wasted opportunity. The world must walk the roadmap for transitioning away from fossil fuels, ending deforestation, and scaling up climate finance.” — Honorable Rosa Galvez, Canadian Senator (Canada).
The 2025 Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice is an opportunity to shift the course of climate action by centering those who are too often left out of the conversation—but who have always been leading. Together, we can build a world rooted in justice, equity, and care for future generations.
