Hear from TEDC's Fall 2015 #ClimateCitizen Scholars as they explore the environmental justice dimensions of the USEPA Clean Power Plan. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Ana Baptista, Associate Director of TEDC and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management.Panelists include:Cecil Corbin-Mark, Deputy Director / Director of Policy Initiatives at WE ACT for Environmental Justice.Mr. Cecil D. Corbin-Mark is a life-long resident of Hamilton Heights in Harlem, New York, where his family has lived for the last six decades. He is the former Vice-President of his neighborhood association, and the former Chair of the Landmarks Preservation Committee of his Community Planning Board. He devotes a lot of time to mentoring young people, he serves as a mentor through the Friends of Island Academy - a program to assist formerly incarcerated teens. He is also a big brother to several young men and women from his neighborhood. And Cecil has financed and run several summer basketball teams for neighborhood youth.Dr. Cecilia Martinez, Director of Research Programs at the Center for Earth, Energy and DemocracyDr. Cecilia Martinez previously held positions as Associate Research Professor in the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment at the University of Delaware,  Associate Professor at Metropolitan State University and Research Director at the American Indian Policy Center. Dr. Martinez has led a variety of projects to address sustainable development at the local and international levels. Her research is focused on the development of energy and environmental strategies that promote equitable and sustainable policies. Dr. Nicky Sheats, Esq., Director of the Center for the Urban Environment of the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy at Thomas Edison State CollegeDr. Nicky Sheats is currently the director of the Center for the Urban Environment at the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy of Thomas Edison Sate College where he has defined the primary mission of the Center as providing support for New Jersey’s environmental justice community. He has also been a member of the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance, New Jersey’s only statewide environmental organization that focuses solely on environmental justice (EJ) issues, since its inception in 2003. Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome, Federal Policy Analyst at WE ACT for Environmental JusticeDr. Jalonne L. White-Newsome is WE ACT’s Federal Policy Analyst, based in Washington, DC. Prior to joining WE ACT, Jalonne was the inaugural Kendall Science Fellow with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), engaging in independent research on climate change adaptation and public health.This event is sponsored by at the Tishman Enviroment and Design Center at The New School.
