Meet Our Visiting Scholars! March 2018 Lunch and Learn Series

The Tishman Environment and Design Center is proud to be hosting three new Visiting Scholars in 2018. New School students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend a series of Lunch and Learn sessions to meet the scholars and learn about their projects and their careers.Steve King is an alumnus of the GPIA program and founder of the Barack Obama Green Charter High School in Plainfield, New Jersey. He will be researching sustainability and environmental justice focused service learning curricula, aiming to produce replicable learning outcomes and a framework for a learning community that provides professional development support for educators.

Barbara Paca is Curator for Antigua and Barbuda’s inaugural National Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia and Cultural Envoy to Antigua and Barbuda. In January Dr. Paca was awarded an Order of the British Empire from Her Majesty the Queen for her work in Antigua & Barbuda. As a Visiting Scholar, Dr. Paca’s research will focus on the theme of Environmental Justice as a Civil Right. She will link programs of the Biennale exhibit with New School colleagues and students to seminars in Venice during May 21-June 2 and September 1-9.

Annie Ducmanis Adams was a founding member and project manager for the Gulf Coast Fund for Community Renewal and Ecological Health, a collaborative fund launched in the wake of Hurricane Katrina by funder networks and foundations engaged in critical environmental justice and civic engagement work that put leaders from frontline communities at the heart of the philanthropic response. She will be advising and assisting the Tishman Center with grant-funded archival-based research into this community-based, bottom-up approach to social change philanthropy which will result in the creation of publicly available resources for grassroots organizations and funders on Disaster Relief and Equitable Recovery: Re-Evaluating Aid and Capitalism in an Era of Catastrophic Weather Events.
